Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 19, 2026
SkateBoard Logistics ("we," "us," or "our") operates the SkateBoard mobile application and web platform (the "App"), which provides transportation management, dispatch, driver onboarding, compliance tracking, and billing services. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share personal information when you use the App as a driver, office staff member, applicant, or customer.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the practices described here, you should not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
Personal Information
For drivers and applicants, we collect your full name, date of birth, home address, email address, phone number, driver's license number and state, emergency contact information, and employment history.
Authentication and Account Data
When you create an account or log in, we collect your email address, password (stored as a one-way hash), login timestamps, authentication tokens, and session data. Office staff and administrators may also have role assignments and access permissions recorded.
Driver Qualification Documents
During onboarding and employment, we collect and store copies of your commercial driver's license (CDL), medical certificate, ELDT certificate, hazmat endorsement, I-9, W-4, motor vehicle record (MVR), background check results, pre-employment drug test results, road test records, and previous employer inquiry results. These documents are stored in encrypted private storage and are accessible only to authorized administrative staff.
Location and Telematics Data
When you are assigned to a trip and the App is running, we collect real-time GPS location, vehicle speed, harsh driving events (braking, acceleration, cornering), hours-of-service (HOS) logs, engine diagnostic data, and geofence entry/exit data through our telematics provider. Location data is collected while you are on an active assignment; you may stop collection by closing the App or ending your assignment, though DOT regulations require HOS recordkeeping during on-duty time.
Biometric Data
We collect proof-of-delivery signatures from drivers and delivery recipients. These signatures are used solely to confirm delivery and are not used for facial recognition, fingerprint identification, or any other biometric identification system. We do not collect facial scans, fingerprints, voiceprints, or other biometric identifiers used for authentication.
Device and App Permissions
The App requests the following device permissions, each tied to a specific function:
- Camera: capturing proof-of-delivery photos, document scans (CDL, medical card, fuel receipts, maintenance bills), and damage reports.
- Location (GPS): real-time trip tracking, geofence detection, route progress, and nearby fuel stop discovery.
- Storage / Photo Library: saving and uploading captured documents and photos.
- Notifications: receiving trip assignments, compliance alerts, and operational messages.
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time through your device settings. Revoking location or camera permissions will limit the corresponding App features but will not affect your ability to view your trips or pay information.
Analytics and Usage Data
We collect anonymized usage analytics — including which screens you open, button taps, feature usage frequency, app version, device type, operating system, and crash reports — to improve the App's performance and reliability. This data is not linked to your identity in our analytics tools and is used in aggregate form only.
Operational and Financial Data
We collect trip assignments, delivery confirmations, proof-of-delivery photos and signatures, fuel transactions, toll records, maintenance bills, settlement and pay records, and banking details (account and routing numbers) for direct deposit.
Customer Information
For customers and shippers, we collect company name, contact names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, billing instructions, credit terms, and load details.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Dispatch and operations: assigning trips, tracking loads, coordinating pickups and deliveries, and communicating with drivers.
- Driver qualification and compliance: maintaining DOT-mandated driver qualification files, verifying credentials, running background checks and drug tests, and tracking regulatory deadlines.
- Hours-of-service and safety: recording HOS logs, monitoring driving behavior, and generating compliance reports required by FMCSA regulations.
- Billing and payroll: calculating driver pay and settlements, generating customer invoices, processing fuel deductions and reimbursements, and maintaining accounting records.
- Communication: sending trip instructions, compliance alerts, and operational messages to drivers and staff.
- Application processing: reviewing and verifying driver employment applications and onboarding documentation.
- App improvement: analyzing aggregate usage patterns and crash reports to fix bugs and improve features.
- Security and fraud prevention: audit logging, detecting unauthorized access, and protecting accounts.
Some of this collection is legally required. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations under 49 CFR Parts 382, 383, 391, and 395 mandate that we collect and retain driver qualification files, drug and alcohol testing records, HOS logs, and vehicle inspection reports. We cannot provide our transportation services without collecting this information, and you cannot opt out of regulatory collection while employed as a commercial driver.
3. Information We Share
We share your information with the following categories of third-party service providers. Each provider has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data — we encourage you to review them:
- Telematics provider — Samsara: GPS tracking, vehicle diagnostics, HOS logs, and driver documents are processed through Samsara for fleet management and DOT compliance. Samsara Privacy Policy.
- Accounting platform — QuickBooks (Intuit): driver settlement bills, customer invoices, fuel reimbursements, and maintenance bills are synced to QuickBooks for payroll and accounts receivable/payable. Intuit Privacy Policy.
- Mapping services — Google Maps: addresses are geocoded and route distances are calculated using Google Maps APIs. Google Privacy Policy.
- Load boards (Truckstop, DAT): load postings, bookings, and tracking updates are exchanged with load board platforms when applicable.
- Background check and drug testing providers: MVR reports, background checks, and drug test results are obtained through third-party screening providers (such as HireRight, Quest Diagnostics, and the FMCSA Clearinghouse).
- Financial institutions: banking details are used for direct deposit of driver settlements and vendor payments.
- Cloud infrastructure: the App and its data are hosted on cloud infrastructure providers that store and process data on our behalf.
We may also disclose your information when required by law, court order, or government regulation; to protect our rights or safety; to investigate fraud or security incidents; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business assets (in which case we would notify you before your data is transferred to a different entity).
We do not sell your personal information to data brokers or third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration. We share data with the providers listed above only as necessary to operate our business and meet regulatory obligations.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy and to comply with legal, regulatory, and accounting requirements:
- Driver qualification files (DQ file, drug test records, MVRs, background checks): retained for the period required by FMCSA regulations — typically three years after termination, with some records retained longer.
- Proof-of-delivery and bill of lading documents: retained for seven years.
- Rate confirmations and load tenders: retained for three years.
- HOS logs: retained for six months as required by 49 CFR §395.8.
- Financial, settlement, and tax records: retained as required by applicable federal and state tax law (typically seven years).
- Account and authentication data: retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period after deactivation for audit purposes.
- Analytics data: retained in aggregate, de-identified form for up to 24 months.
When retention periods expire, we securely delete or anonymize the data. If you believe we are retaining your data beyond what is necessary, you may request deletion (see Section 8).
5. Data Security
We protect your information using industry-standard security measures, including:
- Role-based access controls: users only see data their role permits — drivers see their own trips and pay; office staff and dispatchers see operational data; administrators see everything.
- Encrypted private file storage: sensitive documents (CDL, medical cards, drug tests, I-9, W-4) are stored in private storage and accessed via time-limited signed URLs, not public links.
- Audit logging: we log access to sensitive records and security events (logins, data exports, role changes, unauthorized access attempts).
- Encrypted transmission: all data sent between the App and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- Session management: authentication tokens expire automatically and inactive sessions are terminated.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that compromises your personal information, we will investigate the incident promptly and notify affected users and relevant regulatory authorities as required by applicable state breach-notification laws — typically without unreasonable delay and within the timeframes mandated by law. Notifications will describe the nature of the breach, the data affected, and the steps you can take to protect yourself.
7. Data Minimization
We collect only the personal information necessary to provide our transportation services, comply with DOT/FMCSA regulations, process payroll and billing, and operate the App. We do not collect data that is unrelated to these purposes. When a feature can operate with less data, we use the minimum required.
8. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) give you specific rights regarding your personal information. This section applies to California residents only.
